Neurodiversity-affirming speech therapy for autistic children in Houston.
Neurodiversity-affirming speech therapy for autistic children in Houston honors each child's strengths, interests, and ways of communicating. At Thrive Speech Therapy, we provide individualized communication support, including AAC and support for gestalt language processing. Our goal is to help children express themselves authentically while building trust and connection with their families.
Communication support built around your child
We start by learning how your child connects with other people and what is important to your family. Sessions use child-led, interest-based activities rather than a one-size-fits-all plan. Your therapist builds communication goals around your child's needs and everyday routines.
Support may include understanding and expressing language, social communication, or alternative ways to communicate. We work with children who use AAC and children who are gestalt language processors. The approach depends on the individual evaluation and the communication supports that are appropriate for your child.
What the evaluation includes
Your first visit includes a parent conversation, observation and interaction with your child, and age-appropriate assessment. The therapist considers your child's communication strengths and challenges, then explains the findings and recommends next steps. A written report and personalized plan help you understand the purpose of therapy.
Thrive does not provide autism diagnostic evaluations. We do provide neurodiversity-affirming speech therapy for autistic children, including AAC and gestalt language processing support.
Families are part of the process
Your therapist can help you model communication during familiar activities and share ways to support your child between sessions. We value a partnership with caregivers, with time to ask questions and discuss practical communication goals. Our focus is to support your child, not change who they are.
Thrive serves children from 18 months through 16 years. Therapy takes place in our nine Houston-area clinics and at partner daycares, ABA centers, and private schools. We do not offer in-home therapy.
