Care at Thrive

AAC speech therapy for nonverbal and minimally speaking children in Houston.

AAC speech therapy for nonverbal and minimally speaking children in Houston supports communication in ways that fit each child. At Thrive Speech Therapy, we provide individualized AAC and alternative communication support when appropriate. Our neurodiversity-affirming approach honors your child's strengths and helps your family work toward meaningful communication in everyday life.

Your child's communication comes first

Children communicate in different ways. We begin by learning how your child expresses needs, shares interests, and connects with people. We also listen to your family's priorities and the communication situations that feel most important to you.

Your child's plan may include AAC alongside other speech and language goals. The therapist recommends an approach based on the evaluation rather than assuming every child needs the same tools or activities. Our sessions are child-led, interest-based, and focused on practical communication.

Start with an individualized evaluation

The evaluation includes a conversation with caregivers, observation and interaction with your child, and assessment suited to their age and needs. We consider communication strengths and challenges so recommendations are specific to your child.

After the evaluation, you receive a written report and an explanation of the findings. If therapy is recommended, we develop a personalized plan and discuss next steps with your family. You can ask questions about the goals and how to support communication between visits.

Support beyond the therapy session

Family involvement is part of therapy at Thrive. Your therapist can guide you in modeling communication and share strategies for familiar routines. We focus on building trust and engagement while respecting your child's natural communication style.

We provide speech therapy for autistic children, including AAC and gestalt language processing support. This is communication care; Thrive does not provide autism diagnostic evaluations. We serve children from 18 months through 16 years.

Therapy takes place in our nine Houston-area clinics and at partner daycares, ABA centers, and private schools. We do not offer in-home therapy.
